Get the Inside Scoop on Consulting with a Vascular Surgery Specialist

Have you been referred to a vascular surgery specialist, but don’t really know much about what a vascular surgeon does? Or, perhaps you have questions about vascular surgery procedures and what to expect.

At General and Vascular Surgery (GVS), we are honored to help patients learn what a vascular surgeon does, as well as what to expect depending on the type of vascular condition in need of treatment.

In addition to being experts in their field, our GVS vascular surgeons are highly-skilled and educated, always striving to ensure the best patient outcomes.

Walking Through Treatment with Your Vascular Surgery Specialist

This means walking with you—every step of the way.

Whether you need a solution for an aneurysm, carotid artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, varicose veins, or other vascular conditions, we offer a variety of treatments, including minimally-invasive surgeries.

What Does a Vascular Surgery Involve?

No matter what type of vascular diagnosis you have, our board-certified doctors have been trained in the most innovative and advanced surgical approaches. The type of vascular surgery performed by your vascular surgeon varies depending on your condition and physical health (among other factors).

In some cases, an endovascular specialist may perform a minimally-invasive procedure to treat a vascular condition (such as an abdominal aortic aneurysm, or AAA.)

Other conditions may require an open surgery to correct a vascular problem (such as treatment for an aortic dissection).

What to Expect at a Vascular Doctor Consultation

At GVS, we have a full-scale, comprehensive Vascular Lab. This enables our vascular surgery specialists to provide all patients with a clear diagnosis and treatment plan, with the aid of ultrasounds and diagnostic scans (using new technologies exclusive to the Greater Michiana area).

During your consultation, your surgeon will recommend treatment to address your individual needs. In addition to an examination and overview of your medical history, you will be provided with an opportunity to ask questions. And, your surgeon can provide you with educational resources to help you prepare for your treatment or surgical procedure, what to expect during treatment or surgery, and how to maximize post-surgical healing.
